How Standard Apparel is Impacting Education for Honduran Workers

Aracely is the daughter of Quality Control Manager, Luisa Castillo.  She is 10 years old and in the 5th grade.  She likes to sing and dance, especially to "Bachata" music.  In her spare time, Aracely looks up recipes on her parent's phones to prepare for her family.  She is very good at drawing and solving puzzles.

Standard Apparel Education Impact

One of the main objectives for Standard Apparel is to provide the best educational tools and facilities to both our employees and their families.  We believe that education is an instrumental tool for success, and we want our employees and their children to thrive.  As a start, we recently purchased a computer for Aracely.

Prior to receiving this computer, schoolwork and research were difficult to complete as Aracely only had online access through her parents cell phones and internet cafes.  Now that she's equipped with the proper tools, Aracely will be able to complete her schoolwork at home.

One of our goals for the near future is to develop a Standard Apparel Computer Center, so that other children like Aracely will have a safe place to go to complete their schoolwork. We are currently in the planning stages and are researching potential locations for the facility.

In addition to providing better computer access for our employees and their families, Standard Apparel has implemented other education based programs including a college fund and an annual employee stipend to purchase books & school supplies. Working within the framework of the global garment industry is difficult, but as our new business model grows, so will our educational initiatives - and we can't wait.
